Airspace & Waypoints

Waypoints and airspae now available. Note there have been additions since last year. Please ensure your GPS's and flight computers are updated before the contest starts.

General Notes

Please check your parachute and other gear meets the conditions of entry on the Entry Form.

As you will be downloading your own files for scoring, please be familiar with getting them from your equipment so you don't need to hassle other competitors.

Practice Day Friday 27th Dec.

This is an important day to get the team and the pilots and gliders practiced for the Competition start.

Briefing 11am. A task will be set. At 6.30pm  there will be a Hamburger BBQ with Bacon & Egg, Salad & Buns ($10) giving you a chance to meet your Contest Director.

Catering

A full catering program is available - $30/day to keep you well feed. (Continental Breakfast, morning and afternoon tea/coffee, lunch and 2 course dinner [ which will be kept for you and crew, should you land out]).

For casuals and visitors - morning and afternoon tea/coffee, lunches and a $13 casual evening meal. 

All attendees will be asked for an indication of catering need so supplies can be bought in.

Planned Dinners;

  • Fri 27th Hamburgers and desert $10.
  • Tues 31st New Years Eve Dinner
  • Sat 4th Farewell to Campers and those returning to work dinner.
  • Wed 8th Contest Dinner - Participants, Family and Friends.
  • Thurs 9th Final Day Presentation and Prizegiving, with light snacks and drinks prior to departure.

NB. The Walsh Flying School are moving in 8.30pm on the 9th Jan, ready to start on 10th. 

Bar

There is a licensed bar in the club rooms. The law does not allow alcohol to be brought into the club rooms ($10,000 fine) Please respect this.

The bar will be opened to suit but mainly once all the retrieves have been organised.

It has a good range of beers (all $5), cider & some RTD's and medium priced wine at $20/ bottle $5/ glass. There is a range of non-alcholic drinks eg Freshup, LL&B, Ginger Beer, Coke etc. and some snacks are available eg chips, nuts, and energy bars.

  • Bunkrooms: D4 and No.7 still avail and beds to spare in some others. Note bunkrooms are rented by bed, not by room. So you may be sharing. (Summer time - bring bug deterant.) Washing Machine $2               Check with Ralph, gore.family@xtra.co.nz.

The Nationals will be held in 3 Classes

Advanced

This includes all gliders flying in the Multiclass Nationals in the following classes as allowed by the rules:

Open,  18 m,  15m, Standard

Intermediate

This is the Matamata Soaring Centre Competition and includes the following classes:

Club Class,   Juniors (if this goes ahead),  PW5/Sports (for those that want to have a go at flying a longer task).

Novice

This is for new X-Country / competition pilots that want to have a go at flying an easy to complete task in a competition environment.

Gridding

  1. Advanced - always in front
  2. Intermediate – next
  3. Novice – at the back

No gliders can be taken to the grid during the main competition launch

Entry

Advanced and Intermediate macro groupings are to be entered on line through the MSC website prior to the start of the competition as usual.

Novice Class pilots enter by entering their aircraft and pilot details on an entry board anytime from the night before to the time they launch and pay $5 entry fee.

Other classes day entry $25

Scoring for the Novice division is to be on a daily basis.

Daily Program

0800   Club flying can begin for those wanting to start early – training.                                        

0915  Grid set up. Competition gliders to be on the grid by 1000

0930  Comp Director meets with Camp Coordinator and daily Club Duty Pilots to go over expectations for the day

1000  BriefingCompulsory for Competition pilots, recommended for all other pilots

1200 - 1500 Launch Window. Launch expected to take I hour. Club flying is suspended during the launch.

1300 – CET Club flying & Comp finish. Scoring as traces come in

Evening – Any lectures, QGP lectures, Simulator lessons, traces analysed, GoPro videos edited etc.
